Azerbaijan is the largest state in the South Caucasus - the country with the rich historical past and big amount of the architectural monuments, the land of the bright sun and the azure sea, the country bewitching with the naturalness and inimitable hospitality, the country where the nature is given as the precious gift, where the art is created by the nature.

Azerbaijan is one of the world's oldest civilizations. Its ancient inhabitants left behind the richest cultural heritage, product of millennium old history. Azerbaijan is one of the countries where the different cultures – Zoroastrian, Christian and Islamic cultures met. In the Middle Ages, Azerbaijan was a transit between East and West and one of the main trade, transport and cultural centers on the Great Silk Road.

Azerbaijan was the first country in the East to establish in May 28, 1918 the democratic republic with functioning parliament, which unfortunately lasted very shortly and ended in 1920. Azerbaijan gained its independency again in 1991 and became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992.

Azerbaijan is the richest country in the Caucasian region with its natural resources and a big oil, as well as gas, producer. Oil exploration began in Azerbaijan in the mid-18th century. The energy projects play significant role in shaping the geopolitical image of the country. Azerbaijan has developed and persistently implemented its own oil strategy with a major goal of strengthening its independence and integrating with the international community.
